Those Creepy Steps in McInteer Villa

I have investigated McInteer Villa on 5 separate occasions and enjoyed every one of them. The house is beautiful and has an inviting feeling. When I was there in November 2025, I was the first to arrive. I walked in through the back door and wandered through the house alone absorbing the silence of the space. This is not a place full of fear. It is a place full of love and especially the love of those who have resided within its walls.

The last four investigations were conducted over the course of two days and allowed me to collect a substantial amount of video and audio. For consistency, I would always place a video camera on the second floor, next to the sitting room, and looking down the hallway towards the bathroom. The second camera was placed mid-way up the attic stairs so I could see the attic door if it opened and anyone who moved in the awkward corner of the second-floor hallway. My primary goal had been to understand the footsteps I had heard approaching me on the second floor during my very first investigation of the location in 2020 and I feel like I have answered that investigation question.

The thing I began to notice about the footsteps is that they never occurred when the team was away for dinner. Not one footstep. When we returned, movement could be heard up and down the hallway even when no one was on the second floor. Where the spirits only active when we were in the house or was something else occurring? So, I proposed an experiment.

In 2024, I asked the team to assist me with this experiment. I sat at the end of the second-floor hallway with my camera and an audio device. Then I had team members sit in the master bedroom, the library, and the break room. Next, the final team member was asked to walk through the first floor making a circle from the kitchen, dining room, parlor, office, back stairway corridor, and returning to the kitchen. He walked this path multiple times and at a specific point in this path everyone on the second floor swore they heard someone walking down the hallway. I then asked the team member on the first floor to just walk back and forth from the kitchen and into the dining room. He did that multiple times and it was quickly noted that as the team member downstairs passed through the kitchen and into the dining room the footsteps could be heard upstairs.

We then switched things up and sent another team member downstairs so the one who had been walking could come up and experience the sounds for himself. We repeated the experiment and the footsteps once again occurred as the team member passed from the kitchen into the dining room. I do not work in construction, and I do not understand the physics of sound moving through walls and into the floor above but I do know that this was occurring. We repeated this experiment many times. It was undeniable, we were creating the footsteps.

When my team returned in 2025, I once again placed my camera in that same second floor hallway and observed what had been tested the year before. The steps only happened when the team was in the house. We even used that information to know when the basement team had ended their session, and the second-floor team should come downstairs to regroup.

I know that this is a common experience had at McInteer Villa and I could see that debunking this “activity” had disappointed some of my teammates. While we had collected disembodied voice phenomena inside the house, the footsteps were always the most consistent activity. And the consistency should have been the clue that it was debunkable. Despite what some people think of me, I do not always relish “spoiling the fun” of paranormal investigations. I am interested in the truth and would be excited to be the person who answered the question of “how” strange stuff happens.

If your team has had an experience of recording footsteps in the second floor hallway when no one is in the house, that would be interesting data to share. Unfortunately, due to changes at the property, my team will be unlikely to return to the home in the future. I share this information for those who are continuing their experiments at the home and wish them, along with the residents, much luck in the coming years.

Until next time, Happy Hunting!
